MCHS DECA

MCHS DECA students attended the SC STATE CAREER DEVELOPMENT Conference on February 24-26 in North Charleston. Over 750 were registered to highlight the largest “Ignite your Spark” Career Development Conference in SC history. While students attended leadership workshops, networked, and had fun at a silent disco,  they also competed in professional events. The following DECA students took the stage: Karyn Holloway and Sean Townsend placed 5th in the Entrepreneurship team decision event, Kennedy Miles placed 5th and Sha’nya Gaines placed 4th in Employment Acquisition, Landon Shelley placed fifth in Public Speaking. Madison Woodle was a finalist in Human Resources Management, Nicholas Stubbs was a finalist in Principles of Business Management, and Alex Stroman was a finalist in Public Speaking.  Brenlyn Steen, Tessa Chavis, and Madison Woodle represented the chapter as voting delegates. The MCHS chapter was awarded the gold status for the Program of Work, presented by officers Landon, Alex, and Kennedy,  gold status and achievement for the state and national membership campaign, and the winner of the Ronald McDonald House tab collection for the Columbia district.  Mrs. Van Pelt was recognized as the SC advisor of the month for November.  Landon Shelley turned over his SC DECA Vice President of Hospitality to the newly inducted officer team. DECA is celebrating 80 years as we continue to develop emerging leaders in marketing, management, finance, and entrepreneurship careers.

Several students will advance to Nationals in Orlando Florida in April.
