MCHS Will Administer the PSAT in October
Posted on 09/25/2017

Marlboro County High School will be administering the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to all tenth grade students and other high school (juniors) students who may be interested in taking the test on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.  Important information about the test is stated below.

The PSAT/NMSQT measures reading, writing and languages, and math skills developed over many years, both in and out of school.  Student will not be asked to recall facts from literature, history, science, or to complete math formulas, because this test measures reasoning and critical thinking skills.

Your child should take the test for several reasons.  Each student will receive free, personalized, and focused practice through Khan Academy. The test provides firsthand practice for the SAT and gives students a comprehensive analysis of their answers so they can better prepare themselves for the SAT. In addition, your child will have a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.  Finally, students will know which AP courses they might be ready for and how to start getting ready for college.

In late January, your child will receive his/her PSAT/NMSQT Score Report.  The score report is detailed and will include scores, correct answers, the difficulty level of each question and personalized feedback to assist them in their post high school planning process.

If you have any questions concerning the PSAT/NMSQT, please contact the Student Services Department at MCHS.
