DECA Career Conference

MCHS DECA students traveled to North Charleston, SC for the DECA Career Development Conference February 28- March 1. The following DECA students took the stage in the top 10 of their event combining test and role play scores: Jalyn Armfield and Ashanti McKever- Buying and Merchandising Team Decision, Pooja Patel- Employment Acquisition ( 5th place overall), Haley Branton and Briclee Gray- Hospitality Services Team Decision, John Davis- Hotel and Lodging Management, Ezekiel White- Marketing Communications, Jaheem McLaurin-Quick Serve Restaurant Management, Tramont Miles-Quick Serve Restaurant Management, and Marisa Barfield and Sydney Freeman- Sports and Entertainment Team Decision. Timothy McNeil placed 3rd place overall in Accounting Applications.

Kayse Hicks, Pooja Patel and Sydney Freeman submitted our MCHS Chapter Program of Work that received a Gold status and qualified for the International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in April.  . Alex Stroman, Jaheem McLaurin and Marisa Barfield represented our chapter as voting delegates as new officers for SC DECA campaigned and installed.  All students also attended Leadership Academy workshops in developing 21st Century skills: teamwork, communication and networking.  MCHS DECA was also recognized by SC DECA and Nationals for reaching legendary membership status and Mrs. Van Pelt was awarded her 20 year DECA pin. SC DECA is celebrating 77 years as we continue to develop emerging leaders in marketing, management, finance and entrepreneurship careers.
